Veterans Division 2010 Print E-mail

The Milwaukee Baseball League has added a Veteran’s Division for 2010.  Click "Read More" for what we are thinking and status updates.

The league is composed primarily of MBL veteran players who are seeking to extend their baseball career well into their 30s.  The league is designed to be competitive while providing a gentlemanly recreational outlet.  The division will play Sundays, with some Fridays (more for teams that would like to have their Saturday/Sunday off a couple times per year for other endeavors), with a midweek expanded schedule for teams looking for even more games.

Managers of teams or groups who would like to be considered being added to the league please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   ASAP.

Regarding the Veterans Division
, these are the general guidelines we are following, however by vote of managers can be changed during the pre-season:

  1. 30 or older during the calendar year, age limit.
  2. Teams may have 5 players age 25 to 29.  This is designed to make sure that teams are able to find enough pitching and catching (players can be of any position though) and to allow players who were with teams or in the league the ability to keep playing with people they know.
  3. 20 game schedule, Sundays and Fridays.
  4. 9 inning games.  Doubleheaders are seven inning games.  Each team will have 4 doubleheaders, the rest of the games are singles.
  5. Courtesy runners for pitchers and catchers only, and only with two outs.
  6. DH only for pitcher (AL rules apply).
  7. Ten man line-up allowed with an extra hitter.  If a ten man line-up is elected for a game, it must be used the entire game.  If team goes down to nine players after electing a ten man line-up, the spot vacated and is an out each time it comes up.  If a nine man line-up is elected, the team may add a tenth hitter, in the tenth spot only, after the game has started.
  8. Regular season May - August, with a pre-determined make-up weekend in August.
  9. Playoffs in September.

Our (MBL Vets) cost structure has no player fee sent to a national company, though our team fees are a little higher than MSBL over 28 for a similar schedule due to having scoreboards and scorekeepers in MBL.

The main benefits of MBL Veterans Division v MSBL will be scheduling flexibility and knowable structure including a pre-planned make-up weekend which we've always had in MBL, a slightly higher overall talent level, having scorekeepers and scoreboards (presuming teams want that), slightly lower total fees due to no National organization to pay player fees to and responsive respectful management including the Vets division having their own elected President and Vice President to handle week to week issues.

Our next meeting is January 31 at Club Paragon at 7pm.  Teams must make a commitment to playing in the league with a $500 deposit by that meeting to be assured of a spot for the 2010 season.

2009 Playoffs

Update:
PJ's Pub Tigers ranked 3rd in state and Southshore All-Stars ranked 5th, in final Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Rankings.

PJ's Tigers 6 South Shore All-Stars 3
The 2009 Milwaukee Baseball League Championship match up featured 3 time MBL champion South Shore All-Stars sponsored by All-Star Sportswear hosting defending champion PJ's Tigers. South Shore All-Stars were looking to regain their title as champion against the team who currently held that title. Southshore sent their undefeated ace Tony Landgraf to the mound who was 7-0 during the regular season with a 1.96 ERA. PJ's, countered with 2008 Playoff MVP, Andy Monigal who went 3-0 on the regular season. With the stage set, all that was left was for the game to be played. The first two innings went by without a run being scored, but in the top of the third, Andy Monigal led off with a sinking line drive to right-center field, that trickled all the way to the fence for a triple. Monigal would score on a sac-fly by the next batter Eric Cluppert.
