Heading into the final weekend of the season, five teams are battling for the final bye spot in the playoffs.  O'Brien's & Milwaukee Harley Davidson Orioles and the Town & Lake Realty Braves most control their own destiny and can clinch at least a tie for the final bye spot in the playoffs by winning out.  Johnny V's Kings, Leff's Lucky Town and the Varsity Club Bulldawgs all need to win out and get help to obtain the useful round one playoff bye.  Brown Deer Supreme Builders can only be knocked off a bye with a loss and both the Orioles and Braves winning out.  Things might not be decided until Sunday, August 2nd at Zirkel Field in a doubleheader make-up of the Braves v Bulldawgs.

PJ's Tigers 21 Brew City Indians 5
After a humbling defeat the weekend before against the steakout, in which the Tigers scored only 2 Runs, the bats awakened against the Brew City Indians in a 21 to 5 win. On the mound, Ricky Peese pitched a complete game to earn his 3rd win of the season. At the plate, the Tigers were led by veteran & team legend, Jason "show me the money" Maaske, who put together a 5 for 6 day at the plate. His line included 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, & 7 RBI. Also helping out was Justin Gelhausen who had a 3 for 6 day, which included his second home run of the season and 5 RBI. O'Briens HD Orioles 14 South Shore All-Stars 2
Chris Sanders hit two Home Runs & finished the day 4 for 5 with 5 RBI to lead the Orioles offense. Jim Vielbaum, Tim Heling,& Dave Pangallo each had three hits in the win, & Dan Wilfrath pitched six strong innings to get the victory. League veteran All-Star pitcher Todd Eckert made his first appearance of the season in an emergency start for the All-Stars & went three innings before being relieved in the fourth. A depleted South Shore roster forced manager Matt Mundt into action with a broken wrist still in a cast. Mundt did his best Ichiro impersonation batting lefty & slapping a single to left in the fifth. Greg Ziedonis led the All-Star offense with 3 hits including a double.

Club Paragon Phillies 10 O'Briens HD Orioles 6
In a divisional battle, the playoff hopes of the Phillies remained alive by defeating O'Briens, 10-6. Kurt Kappeler swung a hot stick and Vince Knox led the team with 2 hits, plus he scored twice. His fellow high school teamate, Troy Blackburn pitched a gem, with several strikeouts.

Brown Deer Supreme Builders 14 Club Paragon 13 Phillies (8 Innings)
Club Paragon's offense attacked the Builders throughout the entire game & had a comfortable lead with the score 11-2 midway through the fifth inning. However, Supreme scored 6 runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Phillies lead to three. After a scoreless sixth, Paragon added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh to make it 13-8. With two outs remaining, the Builders rallied & scored five more times to bring the game into extra frames. Sean Carolan hit a two out single and stole 2nd base. Eric Belter then drove him in with the game winning hit in the bottom of the eighth. Carolan & Belter (solo HR, 4 RBI) both had three hits in the game. Steve Labbs led the Phillies offense having three hits including a grand slam. FYI. Builder's manager will not testify to the statistical information above due to the fact he was not present & a team member's sister did the score book....zoinks!

Varsity Club Bull Dawgs 6 Leff's Tosa Grads 4
Travis Rose was the winning pitcher for Varsity Club Bull Dawgs at Zirkel Field.

Varsity Club Bull Dawgs 13 Sid Grinder's Milwaukee Titans 4
BJ Clement was the winning pitcher for Varsity Club. Leading hitter for the Titans was Budnik who hit a home run.

Town & Lake Greco Braves 13 Johnny V's 0
In the first game of a double header the Braves jumped out to a 7 to 0 lead in the 1st inning & never looked back. The 1st inning was capped by another Grand Slam from Chris Samz (4th Home Run of the year). The Braves scored in every inning except the 4th in a short game due to the 10 run rule. Leading hitters for the Braves were Chris Samz 2 for 4 HR (4) with 5 RBI & 2 Runs, Jeff Mallas 2 for 4 with a triple, & 2 Runs. Bill Gorman 1 for 3 with 3 Runs scored, Austin James 2 for 4 with 2 RBI & 2 runs scored. Paul Mallas continued his streak of runs scored (scoring at least one run in every game this year), he also pitched a great game only giving up 3 hits, 3 K's & 1 HBP. The Braves defense was spectacular in this game not commiting one error at all. Paul Mallas also picked a guy off at 2nd to end a scoring threat from Johnny V's. For Johnny V's Tony Lubarsy, Henry Teetz & Lee Klezszynski each went 1 for 2.

Town & Lake Greco Braves 10 Johnny V's 3
The Braves took the field for game 2 of the double header feeling really good about themselves and it showed once they started hitting the ball. The scoring started in the 2nd inning when the Braves scored 2, then 3 runs more in the 3rd inning, 4 runs in the 4th inning & lastly 1 more run in the 6th inning. Chris Samz once again kept his hot bat going, he went 3 for 3 with 2 runs & a walk, Paul Mallas scored twice to extend his runs scored streak intact, Austin James went 1 for 4 & 3 RBI (all coming on a bases clearing double). Nick Voltner pitched another gem for the Braves going all 7, giving up 7 hits, he also had a pick off at 2nd base. The Braves defense was once again spectacular in the 2nd game just like the 1st game they did not commit an error. For Johnny V's Jim Pease was 2 for 4 & Jay Wojcinski was 2 for 3. Jay Wojcinski pitched a complete game for Johnny V's as well.

Leff's Lucky Town 10 The Steakout Blacksox 7
Leff's came back from a 7-5 deficit in the top of the seventh inning scoring five runs, including one on a patented ground out to the right side by Commissioner Kirk Spano, which was likely (hopefully?) his final career appearance.  Mike Schroeder finished strong, getting the Steakout 1,2,3 in the bottom of the seventh to get the complete game victory.

Leff's Lucky Town Americans 10 Town and Lake Realty Braves 4
In game one of a doubleheader that Leff's needed to sweep to get back into the playoff race, Jared Catenacci, John Kuhn and Alex Rejniak got Leff's on the board early with 2 runs in the first inning. Catenacci was hit with the first pitch and John Kuhn followed with a single. Rejniak with two outs then hit a single scoring both runners after John Kuhn's steal. The Braves got one in their half of the first, but that would be their last meaningful challenge as Leff's defense made the key plays, led by Steve Gustafason in centerfield and Aaron Bielawski at second base.  Leff's added two runs in the second and three in the third as Rob Tschimperle, Jeremy Kroll and Jarrett Gates all contributed hits.  In the sixth, Mike Schroeder helped his pitching cause with his second homer of the season, an exclamation point 380 foot home run which drove in John Kuhn after Kuhn's 3rd hit of the day, a double to the wall.

Schroeder worked a game plan to perfection controlling the game on his way to the victory, while dealing with symptoms of the heat which caused him to be sick and need ice packs.  Rejniak pitched a final scoreless inning.  Catenacci went 2-4, 4r, bi; John Kuhn 4-4, 3r, 2bi and Rejniak 3-4, 3bi.  Adam Graves had two hits for the Braves, while three other Braves were ejected.

Leff's Lucky Town Americans 3 Town and Lake Realty Braves 1
In game two of a key doubleheader, Leff's pitcher Rob Tschimperle pitched a gutty game, allowing only three hits in six innings en route to the sweep of the Brave's. The defense behind him got the job done in the middle innings until Tschimperle asserted himself strongly in the fifth and sixth getting five strikeouts over those two innings. In the sixth, "Chimp" recorded three of those strikeouts, including of a Braves pinch hitter.  Alex Rejniak pitched a scoreless final inning getting the save, with two strikeouts including striking out the final hitter on a nasty breaking ball.  Jared Catenacci had two hits and a run scored for Leff's.  Rejniak had the game winning RBI.
